How We Test
Every camera that comes through Flashback Cameras gets the same treatment — whether it's a £30 point-and-shoot or a £150 collector's piece. Nothing leaves us without being properly checked first.
We're not a warehouse operation. Each camera is handled individually, and we take the time to actually use it before it goes anywhere near a listing.
What we check before every sale:
- Power & battery — the camera must power on fully and hold charge. We test with both the original battery (where supplied) and a known good replacement
- Shutter & shooting — we take test shots across multiple modes to confirm the shutter fires correctly and images save to the card
- Lens & optics — we check for haze, fungus, separation, or scratches that could affect image quality. Any optical issues are noted in the listing
- Screen — checked for dead pixels, discolouration, and brightness. Minor scratches to the screen surround are cosmetic only and noted where present
- Buttons & controls — every button, dial, and mode selector is tested for function
- Ports & connections — USB, AV, and charging ports are checked where applicable
- Flash — tested and confirmed working unless otherwise stated in the listing
- Cosmetic condition — we assess and grade the body honestly. Any marks, scuffs, or wear are noted. We don't hide imperfections
What our listings tell you:
We grade every camera based on what we find. If there's a mark on the body, we'll mention it. If the battery is tired, we'll say so. We'd rather be upfront than have a camera come back.
Any known faults or limitations are clearly stated in the product description before you buy.
Please note — we test all cameras using standard consumer conditions. Pre-owned electronics can occasionally develop faults after sale that were not present at the time of testing. Please refer to our returns policy for full details.
